FAQ
What
does the APR stand for?
It means I’m accredited as a public relations professional
through the Public Relations Society of America. Accreditation involves
testing to demonstrate understanding of the strategies and ethics
of the profession and proficiency in its practice.
How
long have you been practicing public relations?
More than 20 years. How many more? I’m not saying!
What
is your industry experience?
Over my career, I’ve logged experience in just about every
industry, including technology, health care, hospitality, and workers’
compensation and managed care. I enjoy the strategic challenges
faced by business-to-business clients and have developed a strong
interest in workers’ compensation and managed care, but I
also love tourism and hospitality clients, such as First Watch Restaurants
and BayStar Hotel Group. I’m also quite active in business-to-consumer
PR.I think having diversity keeps things interesting and fresh for
both me and my clients.
How
do your clients find you?
Nearly all clients have come to me by referral. Often, former clients
will contact me when they land new jobs and clients frequently refer
me to other companies. In addition, advertising agencies, large
public relations firms, management consultants and engineering firms
have hired me to handle public relations or public information programs
for their clients.
Who
are your favorite clients?
Clients who make me part of their team and share their plans and
dreams early on are the ones I can help the most. I’m very
relationship-driven and become attached to my clients’ successes.
What works best are ongoing, long-term client relationships with
ethical people who treat their employees and their customers well.
How
do you bill?
I bill for activities that occur during a month at the end of that
month. For rates, contact me info@kingknight.com
or call 813-837-1701.
What
is your favorite PR activity?
Media relations. I love working with reporters and editors. Many
senior-level practitioners seem to think media relations is beneath
them, but I like and respect journalists, and that comes across.
Placing a story still charges me. I also like the planning process
and thinking through the various avenues we could take.
Who
is the King in King Knight Communications?
That would be me – my given name was Helen King and I married
a Knight.
Where
did you go to school?
The University of South Florida in Tampa. My degree is in Mass Communications.
Are
you a Florida native?
Yes. I was born in Tampa and grew up in Winter Haven, Fla. In fact,
most of my familyare Florida Crackers - fifth-generation on my father’s
side and fourth-generation on my mother’s. Baker County, Florida
is named for one of my father’s ancestors. The Kings mainly
lived in north Florida (Jacksonville and Tallahassee) and the Ingrams
(my mother’s side) settled in Dade City and Tampa. The Pedricks
(again Mother’s side) actually came to Florida in covered
wagons. Considering there was no air conditioning at the time, what
were they thinking? And why didn’t anyone buy and keep beach-front
property?
